1. Introduction 

carga app ulughUlugh is the application that turns your smartphone into the ultimate traveling companion who knows everything. It guides your steps, it will not allow you to miss anything interesting and it will provide you with information and content on the right spot where you really appreciate it.

Ulugh has access to the routeyou.com database where you can search among thousands of routes throughout the world and download the route that interests you, directly from and on your own phone. You can also use routes in GPX or KML format.


Installation, version and Requirements

2. Ulugh Free or Ulugh Premium?

You can choose for the simple Ulugh Free version or the Premium version. In any case you will see that both versions behave exactly the same, with both versions you can download routes from routeyou.com and interact with them in the same way, although Ulugh Free will show limited information and has no access to multimedia content.

3. Requirements

The current Ulugh version is available for Blackberry devices with trackball or touchscreen and with OS 4.5 or higher.

For devices without built in GPS, you can use an external GPS connected via Bluetooth.

If your device does not have a internal memory, you will need a memory card, compatible with your mobile phone.

4. Installation and first setup

Ulugh is available on BlackBerry AppWorld or you can download it from ulugh.com.

The first time you startup Ulugh, the setup screen will pop up, where you can select:

Any settings chosen here can be modified later from the settings screen.

The map

The main Ulugh screen is the map screen. You can navigate through the map as follows:

Move the map: You can scroll the map using the trackball of the device, moving the finger over the touchscreen or using the phone keypad:

The visible or activated routes will be shown on the map with their points of interest whenever we have the screen centred in the right area.

We can distinguish the visible routes from the active routes by its colour; the visible routes are displayed in blue, while the active routes are red.

Menu Buttons

Routes: takes you to the list of available routes on your smartphone.

 

Layers: Choose the mapping you want to use. Depending on the version of the application the mapping you may find are BlackBerry Maps, OpenStreetMap, CloudMade or GoogleMaps.

 

Tools: maptools.

 

Zoom In: Increases the zoom level on the map.

 

Zoom Out: decreases the zoom level on the map.

 

Follow-me: Enables or disables the follow-me option. This option follows your location and centers it in the middle of the screen, whenever you have GPS coverage off-course.

 

Search: Opens the search screen where you can search routes in the routeyou.com database.

 

Settings: Brings you to the settings screen where you can change different paramenters such as language, storage unit or mearuring unit.

Search and manage Routes

6. Search Routes (data connection required)

In the search screen you can search routes in different ways:

The search result is always shown as a list with 10 routes per page. By clicking on one of the results, you’ll get a short description of the route and the possibility to download it. It might be that some routes may not be downloaded due to the restrictions of the route owner.

 

7. Route list

The menu option shows you the list of stored routes. The route list is divided in two:

Both the active route as the routes in the list are selectable, and when you click on one of them, you will get the summary of the route.

Menu buttons

To show the menu buttons in this screen, you have to select a route. According to the state of the selected route, you can use the following tools:

Play Route: Enables the selected route and opens the mapview centered on the area of the route, the enabled route will be shown in red. This function also enables the notification function, which means that when you're near a point of interest on this route, you will hear a notification and the POI information will appear. You can also call the POI information by clicking on the icon or by bringing the icon to the center of the map, depending on the Ulugh version.

 

Stop Route: Disables the active route and the notification function.

 
 

View ON: Makes the route visible on the map, but does not focus the map on the route area. You can make as much routes as you want visible with this option. The visible maps will be shown on top of the route list.

 

View OFF: Disables the visible route.

 

Fit: Makes the route visible, brings you directly to the mapview and centers the map in the route area.

 

Summary: Opens the summary screen with information about the selected item.

 

Delete: Deletes the selected item.

8. Resumen informativo de la ruta

In this screen you will get basic information about the route, such as its description and its list of POIs. 

Most files that you download contain one single route, but some routes consist of several sections or stages. If we have more than one section, there is a button that takes you to the summary screen of this section.

Menu Buttons

The listed buttons may vary depending on the status of the route or the selected item.

Play route: Enables the selected route and opens the mapview centered on the area of the route, the enabled route will be shown in red. This function also enables the notification function, which means that when you're near a point of interest on this route, you will hear a notification and the POI information will appear. You can also call the POI information by clicking on the icon or by bringing the icon to the center of the map, depending on the Ulugh version.

9. Point of Interest (POI) summary

Screen that displays the description of the selected item. The description of a POI can also consist of one or several multimedia files.

Fit: Makes the selected POI visible, brings you directly to the mapview and centers the map in the POI area.

 

 

Settings and Import routes

10. Settings

In this screen you can modify the settings of Ulugh.

By modifying certain parameters you may need to restart the application so that they take effect.

11. Import routes

If you want to import routes in Ulugh in GPX, KML or KMZ format from your computer, you only have to copy the file in the "import" folder you'll find in the folder "Ulugh" of the storage unit you chose during the configuration of the application (in most cases the  SD Card). The next time you start your "Ulugh" the route(s) will be imported in the route list.
